The Children of God Go through Adversities 

Philippians 4:13 says: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” This passage has been a good luck charm for many of us. However, it cannot be understood out of context, because it is then wrongly interpreted.

In Philippians 4:13, Paul does not refer to performing miracles or being a person who had the authority to carry out his personal desires. He referred to an internal level, of having the capacity to live a life submitted to the Holy Spirit. Paul spoke of resilience so that it was enough to resist the external changes of life and remain the same person. We do not live by what happens in this world, but by what we have in Christ.

Part of life is confronting adversities. We are not exempt from trials simply because we are God’s children. Being a child of God does not mean that nothing bad will happen to us. The Scriptures do not say that; on the contrary, we see that in the Bible, men and women of God went through adversities that they had to confront.

Paul teaches that no suffering or difficult situation is greater than the life we have in God, and He gives us the strength to prevail and continue in the midst of any circumstance.

Paul wrote to the Philippians from prison, not from a comfortable place. From the beginning of the letter, he is in that context, giving instructions and touching various subjects so that the church at Philippi could understand and be comforted.
