Protected By The Sacrifice | Read

The first Passover was an act of trust. God was about to rescue His people from their slavery and give them a new future - but they had to be ready and follow the instructions that Moses gave. They had to pack their bags, prepare provisions, and most importantly, they had to kill a lamb and trust that its blood would protect them. They painted their door frames with a statement of hope, trusting that the blood of a sacrifice would protect them and lead to their freedom.

This is the symbolism that Jesus was using to explain His upcoming death. He often spoke to His disciples about how He needed to die to save everyone who would trust in Him. Now He predicts that His body will be broken and that His blood will be poured out so that anyone who trusts in Him will be safe. Our invitation into the family of God is secure because Jesus chose to sacrifice His life so that we could be protected and find freedom through Him.

The Ultimate Sacrifice Of Love | Pray

Jesus said that “There is no greater love than to lay down your life for your friends.” He chose to accept a path that led to His rejection and execution because he knew that it would make a way for us to be safe and right with God. Every time we share communion, we remember His sacrifice and honor His selflessness.

Even though we may not fully understand why Jesus' death was necessary, it’s worth taking the time to be truly thankful. Pray that over the next couple of days God would open your eyes to understand the true gift of what Jesus did, and why His death is so significant.
