There’s an old saying about it being the thought that counts. Unless those thoughts are clearly articulated between spouses, they can expire as dormant intentions. Try extending the effort beyond an internal consideration and present energies as external actions with and for your spouse.

One year I forgot to acknowledge our anniversary. Leah wasn’t happy about it, and although she didn’t anticipate a gift, she rightly expected an acknowledgment of the occasion’s significance. I offered up that I’d thought about it, but as you can expect, it wasn’t what she needed from me. Truth be told, I’d forgotten amidst the business of my wasted selfish efforts. Had I invested a bit more effort into making sure our anniversary was a priority, we would’ve spent a lot less effort being hurt and much more being sexy.

Little things matter. Going the extra mile is still noble, and yes, to your spouse, it’s sexy. Grand gestures seldom sustain a healthy relationship. Daily efforts to show loving consideration, respect, and care go a long, long way. Give that sexy effort an effort.
