Be The Doers of God’s Word
James 1:22
Do what God’s teaching says; do not just listen and do nothing.
Before or after teaching the Bible lesson, our Sunday School teachers always pray that we will be the doers of God’s word. A doer means a person who does something.
James says that we are to be doers of the word of God and not only be the hearer. In this context, being a hearer is when we hear God’s word and say we believe, but then we don’t act upon it. Even though we hear the word of God every day, three times a day, it will not bring about any benefit unless we act upon it.
Plain and simple, it is not just enough to hear God’s word. We are to move beyond listening alone and do what God’s word tells us to do and keep doing it.
Being the doers of God’s word means living by God’s standard.
The way we think, behave and talk to others must be based on God’s word.
We are putting God first in everything we do.
We respect our parents, teachers, and friends.
We are to care for and love others.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for Your word. Help me not only to listen but to do what You say. I want to be a faithful doer of Your word. Amen.
