What does it say?

Jesus appeared four times to His followers after His resurrection. At Bethany, He gave the commission to spread the gospel, blessed them, and then ascended into Heaven.

What does it mean?

On the road to Emmaus, Jesus demonstrated the power in the truth of Scripture. By questioning the two men, He created the need to know the truth in them. He used the Old Testament Scriptures to explain the redemption story. Jesus could have made Himself known to these disciples in many ways, but He chose to reveal His identity through the truth of Scripture, causing their hearts to be set ablaze through the understanding of divine truth. The illumination of Scripture changed two discouraged, confused disciples of Christ into vibrant believers, full of joy with a testimony to share.

How should I respond?

Is your faith grounded in the living Word of God? As we study the Bible, God’s Spirit illuminates our hearts and minds with His truth and fills us with a burning desire to receive more.
