Has anyone ever promised to give you a gift at Christmas? The feeling of waiting for a promise to come true can be agonizing. We might be so excited every time we see that person in the hopes they'll have our present ready for us. But this waiting isn't just for gifts at Christmas. Learning to wait for good gifts is also part of following Jesus, too.

In today's reading, you'll explore the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah as they wait for God to fulfill a promise. Like her cousin Mary, Elizabeth is told she'll have an unexpected son who would do great things. When these cousins got together, it was like a big party because both of these women had their lives transformed, they just needed to wait for the promise to come true.

As we wait for promises, there are people we can rely on to help carry us through. Our siblings, families, and friends can celebrate with us and sustain us as we wait. They can remind us of the ways God is always with us and always working to fulfill the promises made. Throughout history, God has made so many promises to people, and every single one has come true, but we just have to be patient as we look ahead and wait for God to work. No matter the challenges or the amount of time we spend waiting, we can trust God to be faithful to us. As we remember what God has done in the past, we can be thankful for God's promises.
