In today’s story, Nehemiah was building a big wall to protect the city. That was what God had told him to do. But Nehemiah had enemies who were trying to stop him.

Before you read, think about a time when you needed help. Maybe you felt under attack or maybe you were just really tired or you didn’t know what to do about something! Ask God to teach you how to pray in situations like that.

1. Read Nehemiah 6:9. Why did Nehemiah need strength?

2. Read Nehemiah 6:15. How did God answer Nehemiah’s prayer?

3. Read Nehemiah 6:16. Why were Nehemiah’s enemies afraid?

Nehemiah asked God for help to obey him. Nehemiah needed strength in his hands, to build the wall. And he needed strength in his heart, to keep going and not be scared. God answered Nehemiah’s prayers and the wall was finished! Just like Nehemiah, we can pray for help to obey God when it’s hard.

Sometimes we think that being weak is a bad thing. Actually, when we’re weak, that’s when God’s strength is the most obvious. When God does amazing things through weak people, everyone sees how amazing God is!

4. How might this change the way you feel about your weaknesses?

5. Think of something you know God wants you to do, but it feels hard. What do you think might happen if you ask for God’s help to obey him?

Finish by praying to God for his help and strength. Remember, he always hears you!
