UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF THE COMMUNION TABLE

Let me ask you this question: Whenever you hear about the Holy Communion, what thoughts flood your mind? I have discovered that the subject of the Holy Communion has been surrounded by mystery and embroiled in controversy among believers.

The differing perspectives around the Holy Communion include the following:

1. Those who believe that it is the literal body of Christ that we eat each time we partake of the Holy Communion;

2. Those who insist that you need to do some rites or demonstrate your commitment to a church denomination before partaking at the table; and

3. Those who see nothing wrong in sharing Communion on crusade fields with everyone present, regardless of their salvation experiences.

Understandably, many Christians have concluded that the Holy Communion is nothing more than a ritual that happens in church, and they don’t understand what they are doing at the Communion table. The truth, however, is that there is tremendous power in the Holy Communion for every blood-washed, covenant child of God. This power is always available to those who know the treasure that God has reserved in the truth of the Holy Communion. I trust God that at the end of this devotional, you will be a conscious partaker of the blessings awaiting you at the Communion table.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, open my heart of understanding and unlock the blessing available to me at the Communion table, so that the Communion table won’t remain a ritual to me, in Jesus' name. Amen!
