Your Words Bring Light to the World
Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3 NLT
One evening as I sat at my desk and tried to write encouraging words, my thoughts kept being interrupted by news headlines: violence, disease, tragedy, corruption, poverty. Feeling completely overwhelmed, I finally paused and asked God, “How do I get rid of the darkness in our world? It seems impossible to even make a difference.”
Have you felt or asked the same?
In an instant it seemed I heard the whisper of an answer in my heart, “The only way to get rid of darkness is to add more light.”
Hope flickered back into being within me. We can all add more light wherever we are, for whoever God places in front of us, because we have the Light of the World within us.
Simply ask God this: “As a writer, how do you want me to add more light to the world with my words today?” It might be by faithfully adding one more page to the project you’re working on, sending an encouraging text to a friend, or posting something that brings a bit of hope on social media.
Refuse to believe the lie that your words have no power. Don’t let cynicism convince you nothing can change. Silence the voice of your inner critic that says, “The little bit you have to offer can’t make a difference.” Let me assure you, with Jesus it can.
You are here at this time in history for a purpose and no one can take your place. Be who you are, do what only you can do, write what only you can write. Let’s drive out the darkness together—one word at a time.
God, show me how to add light to the world with my words today. You are still in control, and you are greater than any darkness. Amen.
What’s one small way you can add light to the world with your words today?
