Journey to Easterنموونە

An Intentional Last Supper
It’s hard to imagine what it was like being Jesus, knowing what was coming next and living among people who didn’t fully understand the plan at hand.
Jesus was completely about relationship and connection, though, including at the cross. He’d journeyed with the disciples in the years up until this Last Supper, and now He was gathering them one more time before His ‘appointed time’ came.
Big things transpire in this supper: Jesus confirms that one among them will betray Him, and we’re given the foundation of communion.
There’s something compelling about that, that in Jesus’ final gathering with His disciples He gifts them (and us) a way to reaffirm our relationship with Him and be reminded of its continual power. Jesus knew the disciples would be without Him for a time, but He also knew the power of communion, and having a way to sit in the truth of what Jesus’ impeding death and resurrection would mean to His followers.
It’s also compelling to know that when Jesus knew His time was coming, His response was to gather, celebrate and prepare for what was promised. People were always at the forefront of Jesus’ mission.
May we have a similar dedication to the people who live alongside us in our pursuit of God-given purpose too.
