Ironbark

An ironbark tree is a picture of strength and hardiness. Its bark is resistant to fire and protects the living tissue of the tree. Its roots are strong (aboriginal people once made boomerangs from them).

Looking back, who have been the ‘ironbarks’ in your life? People who have had a strong, positive, life changing influence on you? These ‘ironbarks’ have crossed your path and you are so much better for it. Thousands of people cross our paths in the course of a normal life span. A tiny number of them change our lives for the better. They are God’s gifts to us.

Whose life are YOU being an ‘ironbark’ in? Some people will be changed because YOU have crossed their path. Some people will walk a better path, a wiser track, because you’ve had a strong influence on them. In years to come, when they look back, it will be you they’ll be appreciating for the example you were in their life.

There are opportunities out there on most days to act in ways which encourage others to walk on higher ground.

Think about the people in your life right now. Whose life do you have a unique place in, with the privilege of influencing for eternity?

Rise up and be the ‘ironbark’ that they need.

Father, no matter how old we are, may we set an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Abundance In The Bush - Country Devotions PART 2

Seek and you will find God's signature all over the bush. Pull up beside her creeks. Sit under the majestic gums. Fill your nostrils with branding smoke. Run an eye over the cattle. Discover the parable in every horse. Marvel at the working dogs. The bush offers lessons richer than you'll find in any classroom. May these devotions bring some of the abundance of the bush to you.
