In the book of Acts, we read about a time when the disciples and a whole group of believers were gathered together at a house in Jerusalem. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like a roaring windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then the Holy Spirit came upon them in what looked like flames or tongues of fire above each of their heads. Everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages.

Peter stood and addressed the crowd gathered. He explained that they were now empowered by the Holy Spirit. This marked a turning point in the early church. With the Holy Spirit’s empowerment, Peter boldly proclaimed to them about Jesus Christ and God’s plan of salvation. On that day around 3,000 people were baptised. From there the church grew and grew, with the Holy Spirit empowering people for the mission Jesus gave.
