Desperate

In Luke 8, we have the story of a woman, who the scriptures say, “had been bleeding” for 12 years. In an act of desperation, she decided that if she just touched the edge of Jesus’ cloak she’d be done with her sickness. She did so and instantly found healing. What’s fascinating about this story is how it plays out. Jesus is walking through a multitude of people. He is clearly being touched and pressed by bodies all around him, yet he was able to identify when this woman touched him because he felt that “power had gone out from him.” A multitude of people were close enough to touch Jesus, but only one of them got to experience His power. Only when you’re desperate for Jesus to move in your life do you get to experience His power.

When was the last time you experienced Jesus’ power? Are you desperate for Him to move in your life? Are you part of the multitude who is content with watching Jesus pass by? Or are you part of the desperate few who experience his power?

CALL TO ACTION

Increase your level of desperation this week. Ask yourself, in what area of my life am I desperate for Jesus to move? Then take a step that would be the equivalent to touching the edge of His cloak. It could be a prayer, a phone call you’re scared to make, an audition, a job application, etc. Only you can know what that act of desperation is.

PRAYER

Jesus–I’m desperate for You. I need You in my life. I’m tired of only knowing about You without experiencing You. Forgive me for being comfortable. I know You want to move in my life with great power. I want the fullness of everything You have to offer. –Andres Figueroa
