REIGN

Jesus is providing them (and us) with another facet of God’s character. He introduces the disciples to God being King. In addition to God being Father, and being hallowed, God is also the reigning monarch. And God’s Kingdom is marked by His sovereignty over heaven and earth.

In Jesus, we see God’s will for heaven and earth aligned. He brings transformation and wholeness to this broken world. Therefore, as his followers, we join Jesus as he prays that what happens in heaven will happen here on earth. We join him in praying to see God’s will extend to all the earth. This would mean that God’s desires become our desires. In doing so, we will see transformed individuals, communities, and the restoration of creation. This is a prayer of action. God’s reign will result in justice and righteousness covering the earth.

Prayer Points:

• What will your community look like when we say, “Your will be done”? That’s a bold prayer to pray! Ask for courage and grace in being able to go where God is leading you.
• Think about the places of injustice in your communities. These can seem overwhelming. Pray together for discernment to see the small actions you can take together to serve God’s Kingdom and bring justice for children and young people in particular.

The kingdom of God according to Romans 14:17 is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy through the Holy Spirit. So, when we commit ourselves to say that your kingdom comes, we must be ready to be artisans of justice, artisans of peace, and artisans of the joy that the Holy Spirit gives around us, in our families, in our communities.
