Day 4: Honour Each Other & Maintain Professionalism

When working with our family members, it’s crucial to treat each other with the same professionalism we extend to colleagues with whom we have no familial ties with. We may feel the temptation to take everything personally, but it’s important to remember that conflicts or difficulties should not affect our mutual respect or our commitment to common goals. Treating each family member with respect, even in moments of disagreement, is essential to maintaining a healthy and productive environment.

On a recent EquipHer Instagram live session, Pastor Wendy shared a wise thought her father taught her: “See each other after the spirit.” This means viewing others through God’s eyes; recognizing their value, purpose, and potential, beyond their imperfections and any conflicts that may arise. In a family-work environment, it is crucial to not allow past mistakes, judgements, or failures to justify a lack of respect towards one another. Instead, we must honour and esteem one another, just as God honours us.

The Bible teaches us to honour others consistently, not just when everything is going well, but also in difficult times (Romans 12:10). This principle involves not only brotherly love but also professional respect. Every family member, even when working together with us, deserves to be treated with dignity and consideration.

Maintaining professionalism while honouring each other creates an atmosphere of respect and trust that allows everyone to thrive, both in business and in family relationships. It’s not just about avoiding conflict; it’s about creating an environment where each person feels appreciated and valued.
