GRATITUDE

In 2 Samuel 7:18-29, the word of the Lord came to Nathan the prophet concerning David and all the promises God had for him. King David came and sat in the presence of the Lord as he began to ask God questions concerning the prophecy. His conversation with God in this passage is one of both humility and gratitude at all the Lord had spoken over his life!

In 2 Samuel 7, David says, “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human!” As David talks to God about this unexpected prophecy, his humility and honor for what God would do in his life ushers him into worship and gratitude. David was not so familiar with God that he lost reverence for the Word God spoke. Instead, as he grew closer to God and learned of His plans for his life, he responded in complete gratitude, knowing he didn’t deserve this, but it was simply the plan God had for his life.

David’s conversation with God in this passage was marked by humility and gratitude. What is your response when the King speaks a word over your life?

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for speaking! Open my eyes to see how great You are and the honor it is to serve You! Search my heart and reveal any areas where I have grown too familiar and lost reverence for You. I want to worship You in gratitude, awe, and wonder! Amen.
