Sōzō: Example 2
Our second story is found in Mark chapter 5, and it is the story of the bleeding woman. You might want to read the story before continuing.
We will now focus on verse 34 from the KJV which says, "And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague."
When we read this story in English, we read that the woman’s faith has led to her healing and that she can go in peace as she is now healed from her bleeding. It is an amazing story, and she sure displayed great faith.
The word "whole" is used two times and if we didn’t know any better, that would sound just fine. However, we are about to dig a bit deeper to look at the original language and see where sōzō fits in. The first time the word "whole" is written, the Greek word sōzō is used. The second time "whole" is written, the Greek word hygiēs is used. This means to be healed.
Let’s use these words instead of "whole".
"And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath saved you; go in peace, and be healed of thy plague."
This woman is not only healed, but she is saved.
Your FAITH has saved you. Her faith led her to take action; the faith which brought the action which ended in SALVATION! She had a problem and knew that JESUS had the ANSWER!
You may have guessed it already, but today’s word is "whole". Whole means healed, but it also means saved. When you read this word on your hand today, think about how God has healed you and made you whole.
