Value in Sticking It Out

As we continue this journey to discover the gift of you, I want to offer one caution. Just because a situation in your life is challenging or uncomfortable, don’t abandon it too quickly. Maybe you’ve been diligently saving money to take the trip of a lifetime, and you suddenly want to spend it all on a new car you don’t need. Or perhaps a lifelong friendship has become pretty tricky. Or maybe you’re just tired from taking the courses to earn your degree. When you look at your life today, it’s not feeling like a life you love.

The reason I want to encourage you to stay with the saving and the friendship and the studies is because there is often value in doing hard things. If God is telling you to stick it out, then there’s something you can glean from that situation. There is a way in which hard things grow us into the person God has designed us to be. So, while it would be easy enough to blow the bank account, ditch the girlfriend, or quit school, I believe that there can be something for you to gain from the situation in your life that feels hard right now. Let it teach you what it will teach you. I guarantee that if you stick it out, you will grow.

Look at the hard things in your life right now, and brainstorm the gifts or skills or strengths that can come out of them if you stick with them.

Gracious God, You know each of the hard places in my life right now, and I believe that You care. Grow me in these areas so that I might become the person You created me to be. Amen.
