Day 2) The Rocks (God’s Rule Over Creation)
Three Truths About The Earth
1) God Created It
The earth and rocks’ response to Jesus’ death highlights His role in creation (Colossians 1:16). Everything we see, smell, hear, and touch exists because God spoke it into being (Genesis 1). Not only did He create the people who nailed Him to the cross, but He also created the very planet they lived on.
2) He Controls It
God did not create the earth and then leave it to function on its own. No, He is intimately involved in every aspect of our world—even the wind and waves obey Him (Matthew 8:27). Reflecting on this truth reminds us of His incredible power!
3) He Will Redeem It
One day, Jesus will return and redeem His creation, which has been cursed by the impact of sin. He promises to make “all things new” (Revelation 21:5) and establish a new Holy City, where heaven and earth will come together as one. When we face the pain of life today, we can find comfort in His promise of complete renewal and restoration.
Big Idea: God created the earth, sustains it with His power, and will one day redeem it from the effects of sin. As we witness the beauty and brokenness of creation, we are reminded of His sovereignty, faithfulness, and the promise of His eventual return.
Let’s Think About This:
Question 1) How does recognizing God as the Creator of everything—including those who crucified Jesus—change the way we view both the world and the people around us?
Question 2) In what ways do you see evidence of God’s control over creation in your daily life? How can this truth encourage you in difficult times?
Question 3) How does the promise of a redeemed and renewed creation impact the way we live today? What are some practical ways we can hold onto this hope in the midst of life’s struggles?

The incredible story of Jesus’ horrific death and miraculous resurrection has been retold so many times that, if we’re not careful, we might overlook the significance of some of the smaller details of the events that took place between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. In the “Open Up” Bible study, we’re going to take a closer look at four things that miraculously “opened” in Matthew 27:50-56 immediately following Jesus' last breath. Prayerfully, as we dive deeper into this passage together, the Holy Spirit will open up our hearts to the profound implications of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection!
