Jesus makes Himself known

Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned and said to him in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni!’ (which means Teacher).” (John 20:16)

Jesus' tomb was empty. This raised serious questions. Mary Magdalene suspected that someone had stolen His body and stood by the tomb weeping. The presence of two angels in the tomb did not change that. And when Jesus Himself stood behind her and asked her why she was so sad, she didn't even recognize Him. She was so absorbed in her grief that she didn't notice the miracle. Only when Jesus addressed her by her name did it dawn on her. Jesus was alive, and He was standing there talking to her!

Mary was instructed to share this good news with the other followers of Jesus. He had risen and would meet them. He would not remain on earth long: “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” (John 20:17) Jesus' mission on earth was completed. Soon He would continue His work in heaven. But that would happen only after He met many of His followers in person, to remove any doubt about His resurrection.

We cannot see Jesus with our own eyes. We must rely on the eyewitness accounts in the Bible. Are these convincing to you? What other “sources” might help you grasp the reality of Jesus' resurrection?
