Whom Do You Seek - Easterنموونە

Judas’ footsteps echo in the quiet of Gethsemane. He comes with a mob, armed with swords and clubs, but his weapon is more subtle—a kiss. This isn’t impulsive; it has been set in motion long before this night.
It’s a hard truth. We recoil at the thought that God’s plan could include such treachery. Yet, Jesus never wavers. He knew Judas would betray Him (John 6:70). He even called him “friend” in the moment of betrayal (Matthew 26:50)— not because Judas was faithful, but because Jesus was. His love remained even as Judas fulfilled what had been determined.
God’s sovereign hand is at work here and in every moment leading to the cross. When a disciple strikes with a sword, Jesus rebukes him. God’s kingdom will not come through violence, resistance, or grasping for power. It will come through sacrifice.
So, Jesus submits. He allows Himself to be taken, not because He is weak, but because this is the way—the only way. “This is your hour—when darkness reigns.” The powers of evil are given their moment, but only because God has ordained it. They believe they are seizing control, but they are only fulfilling what must be.
This is a great mystery. God does not cause evil. Yet, He ordains even the darkest acts to serve His purpose. The betrayal of Jesus, the scheming of the religious leaders, the violence of the soldiers—none of these things overthrow God’s plan. Instead, they establish it.
We may struggle to see God’s sovereignty in our own pain, betrayals, and dark nights. But Gethsemane reminds us that nothing happens apart from God’s will. Even the deepest wounds, the greatest injustices, are under His rule. And, just as Jesus’ suffering led to resurrection, so too will our trials be redeemed in His perfect time.
Today, ponder this: Pray the following: Lord, when I do not understand Your ways, help me trust You. When I face betrayal, help me remember that You have walked this road before me. And when I am tempted to fight in my own strength, remind me that Your kingdom comes not by force, but by surrender. Amen.
