Day 1: Palm Sunday
Read Matthew 21:1–11
What stood out to you most as you read today’s 11 verses in Matthew?
Was it the humility of Jesus - the Servant King choosing a simple donkey instead of a valiant horse or an ornate carriage? Imagine the contrast: the King of Kings making His entrance on a lowly cargo animal. What a striking picture of His mission to serve, not to be served (Matthew 20:28).
This humble procession into Jerusalem is rich with meaning. Picture the scene: the crowd’s excitement, the fluttering garments thrown down in honour, the cries of “Hosanna!” echoing through the air. It’s a moment of profound welcome; a glimpse of the reverence Jesus deserves.
How do you welcome Jesus into your life?
Is it with open arms and a heart laid bare, like the people casting down their garments in surrender and worship? Or are there parts of you that remain guarded - corners of your heart kept hidden, held back from the loving reign of King Jesus?
This isn’t a question to spark guilt but an invitation to reflect. Are there areas of your life that need the touch of His grace, places that could be opened more fully to His love?
The people in Jerusalem were stirred as Jesus entered. The whole city was in an uproar! Despite opposition, this moment shines with honour and anticipation.
What about us? Are there ways we can honour Jesus more deeply in our daily lives? Or places where we, perhaps unintentionally, fail to give Him the glory He’s due?
As we step into this Holy Week, let’s embrace the example of humility shown by our Savior. Let’s be intentional about opening every part of our hearts to Him, surrendering fully to the One who is worthy of all our praise.
He alone deserves our honour, our devotion, our everything.
Father God,
Help me to recognise You as King in every area of my life and to worship You with all my heart. May I not reserve certain parts of myself from you but allow you full access to sanctify and free me from the bondages of sin. I love you Lord, thank you that you set the greatest example for us, both in humility and in servant leadership.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
