Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!
S: Scripture
If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.
O: Observation
Read James 5:16 again.
- What stands out to you?
- What does it teach us about repairing harm we've done?
- What steps do you see listed for doing that?
A: Application
What's something that keeps you from saying you're sorry when you make a mistake?
When we mess up, we have to acknowledge what we've done, apologize, and then ask how we can work to repair the damage that's been done. Which of those steps comes most naturally to you? Which one is difficult?
How would your life be different if you began to repair the harm you've done right away rather than avoiding it for a while?
P: Prayer
Spend some time in prayer about a place in your life that needs to be repaired. Confess what that is to God, and ask Jesus to help you repair the harm you've done. Talk to God about who you might need to involve in the conversation. Then, thank God for the strength Jesus provides to help us do what's right even when it's difficult.
