A Purpose Shaped by Love and Holiness

As the Song of Songs unfolds, the language of love becomes increasingly vivid and poetic. Today’s passage paints a portrait of admiration and longing—two hearts delighting in one another. Though ancient and symbolic in form, these verses express a timeless truth: we were created for meaningful connection, for love that sees, values, and cherishes the other.

This kind of love—devoted and attentive—mirrors a deeper spiritual reality. It points us toward the love of God, who sees us fully and draws us near. Our purpose is never just productivity or performance, but to live in relationship with God and with others, grounded in love.

In 1 Thessalonians 3–4:12, Paul gives voice to this same calling. He encourages the Thessalonians to abound in love and to live holy, purposeful lives. This kind of living doesn’t withdraw from the world; it leans in, working quietly, loving faithfully, and pleasing God in everyday actions.

When love is rightly ordered—when it flows from God and overflows to others—it shapes our purpose in powerful, practical ways.

Prayer of Illumination:
Lord, as I read today, help me not only to admire the beauty of love but to live it out in truth and holiness. Shape my thoughts, desires, and actions according to Your purpose. Let Your Spirit lead me into a deeper relationship with You and with others. Amen.
