Day 28: Trust and the Readiness of Love

"If you love me, keep my commands." John 14:15 (NIV)

Love obeys without delay.

The speed with which we obey reveals a lot about our hearts. Often, when we delay, it's not prudence. It's disobedience disguised as spirituality. We call it "I'll pray more about this" or "wait for confirmation," but in reality, we're just postponing the yes.

True love doesn't hesitate. Think of a child called by a trustworthy parent: they come running, without asking for explanations or negotiation. Love responds quickly because it trusts. Jesus said that love is obeying His commandments. There is nothing simpler and more straightforward.

But we complicate this truth. We link obedience to our understanding, our feelings, or the convenience of the moment. However, delayed obedience reveals a divided heart.

Mary gives us a perfect example. When the angel announced something humanly impossible, her response was immediate: “I am the Lord's servant. Let it be to me according to your word”. No calculations, no delays, just surrender.

Our delays are often attempts to maintain control. We want to obey God on our terms and in our time. But this is not obedience; it is negotiation. And God does not seek negotiators. He wants sons and daughters who trust Him so much that they say “yes” before they see the entire staircase.

Immediate obedience may cost us our sense of security, but it opens us to true freedom. When we let go of control, we find God's good, perfect, and pleasing will. The faster we obey, the sooner we experience His blessings.

Love does not obey because it is obligated, but because it desires to please the Beloved.

My Prayer:

Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have hesitated before Your word. Give me a heart like Mary's, quick to respond, ready to trust, joyful to obey. May my obedience be an expression of my love for You, not a burden, but a privilege. May each immediate "yes" be a reflection of my desire to please You. Amen.

Questions to Reflect:

1. Is there an area of your life where you have disguised disobedience with procrastination?

2. How can you demonstrate your love for Christ today by immediately obeying something He has already asked of you?
