Causin' a Stir: Thirst Quenching Essentials for Satisfying Your Soulنموونە

DAY 6 — Keep Drinking
Walking my neighborhood one afternoon, I pondered how this phenomenon works. How does God making us thirsty transform selfish people—like me—into people willing to make choices they’d never make on their own? As I searched Scripture in the next weeks, I noticed something: Paul’s prayers. Again and again, he prayed for believers to live differently, and when they did, they caused a stir wherever they went.
What if that’s the point? God awakens thirst in us—needs only He can satisfy—and through His Spirit gives us the desire and the power to pursue Him. The result? Transformation that brings deep satisfaction we can’t get anywhere else.
The problem is, we’re often not that thirsty. We know Jesus is the Living Water. We know verses like “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (Matthew 6:21 NLT). But honestly? Our desire feels dry. We assume the verse means our hearts are locked in place, and if we don’t already treasure Jesus, we’re out of luck.
But that’s not the message. The Bible says we can point our hearts toward the treasure we want to desire. And Philippians 2:13 reminds us that God Himself supplies both the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
Here’s the catch: it’s not instant. Sometimes becoming thirsty for God feels like swallowing sand. That’s why the key to becoming thirsty is to keep drinking—even if it tastes like dirt.
My twin boys illustrated this on a camping trip. When the dads handed out foil packets of fire-warmed s’mores, my boys—still new to English—refused, insisting, “No, no! Me, no like.” They had no idea the melted chocolate inside was exactly what they craved.
We often do the same with God. We resist what feels uncomfortable, not realizing He’s offering us the very sweetness our souls long for.
The truth is simple: the more we drink of Him, the more He awakens our thirst. And in that thirst, He satisfies.
Drink Deep
If your desire for God feels weak, don’t quit. Keep drinking—even if it tastes like sand. Trust that God is stirring your thirst and preparing you to taste His sweetness.
