Ever-Increasing Transformation

Playing music holds a significant role in my life. My favorite instrument is the bass guitar. I love to lay down a low-end groove for the band, but I especially enjoyed learning to play and perform with a drummer, guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist.

Music can be powerful when all the instruments work together to create beautiful melodies and songs. Similarly, your entire life—heart, soul, mind, strength, and relationships—becomes powerful when surrendered to Christ as one unified offering.

Spiritual formation isn’t about adding more to your busy week. It’s about a whole-life response to God’s love. Every thought, action, and relationship is an opportunity to love Him and reflect His Son.

Romans 8:29 reminds us that God’s plan is to conform us into Christ’s image. Jesus gave us a Great Commandment that covers every aspect of life—heart, soul, mind, strength, and relationships. It’s not compartmentalized. It’s all-encompassing:

· Heart: surrendering our passions, desires, and motivations.

· Soul: living an unhurried life tethered to Jesus, our strength.

· Mind: renewing our thought life through alignment with the Word.

· Strength: exerting our physical, mental, emotional, and practical efforts in God-honoring ways.

· Neighbour: seeking the good of our friends and loving our enemies.

When all five are active, they produce a harmonious melody of spiritual growth.

The Christian life isn’t limited to Sunday mornings or personal devotions. It’s about living every moment “in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17). Whether you’re at work, home, the gym, or the golf course, you have the chance to be shaped into Christ’s likeness, to bear the fruit of the Spirit, and to show others the relentless love of our heavenly Father.

Spiritual formation is a lifelong process, but not one that needs to diminish; rather, this transformation has an “ever-increasing” potential in our lives until we see Him face to face.

I remember learning an old song in my church growing up. The lyrics were simple:

To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, all I ask, to be like Him. All thru life's journey from earth to glory, all I ask, to be like Him.”

The words were easy, and the melody was simple. However, living it out can be challenging. Still, that desire can serve as the catalyst for genuine transformation, reaching a world that needs to see Jesus-followers who look more and more like Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for forming every part of me into the image of Christ. May my whole life be an offering of love to You. Amen.

Reflection: Where have you seen growth in your life this week? Where have you struggled? Ask God to shape every part of you into the image of the Son, so that you can look, sound, and act more and more like Jesus.

Transformed Men

This week, we will explore spiritual formation through the lens of Jesus’ Great Commandment (Mark 12:28-34) to understand how we can love Him with every part of our lives. God’s goal for men is not perfection or performance, but transformation. He is shaping your heart, soul, mind, strength, and relationships to look more like Jesus. Written by Dean Brenton.
