Day 3 — The Turning Point
Today, we are going to dive deeper into the fourth stage of leadership faith.
What is “the wall,” and more importantly, what is God doing in us when we find ourselves facing it?
Coach Sheree Cain-Jones identifies “the wall” as the moment in which our momentum slows, clarity fades, and what used to make sense no longer does. However, she also reassures us that contrary to how this season may make us feel, the wall is not there to stop us, but to refine us.
It is the stage where God changes the way we see, think, and build. It slows our pace so that we can rediscover His presence in the midst of the process.
Refinement precedes expansion, and before God promotes, He prepares. Therefore, the wall is not a setback, rather, a sacred setup for what is to come next.
Let’s take a moment and think of David, who was anointed king long before he was officially appointed – learning to lead not from a throne, but in the solitude of the fields, tending flocks of sheep. How about Paul, who wrote letters that shaped and instructed the Church while sitting in a dark prison cell.
In every story, the waiting became the training ground for refinement and resilience. God was not absent; He was strengthening what would one day sustain the legacy impact these leaders would bring forward to the next generation – a legacy that would have an eternal impact.
As James 1:2–4 (NIV) reminds us, “Consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete.”
If you feel like your confidence is becoming fragile, your prayers sound quieter, or your strength is fading, know that this is not the beginning of your end – you are simply being rebuilt, strengthened, and prepared by God for the next season He has already ordained for you.
It is through these seasons of trial that God is at work sanctifying our motives, sharpening our discernment, and anchoring our trust in His Word.
So, when we feel as though we have hit this season in our life, remember these promises:
- When the wall says, “You are not enough,” God says, “My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV)
- When the wall says, “You failed,” God says, “You will rise again.” (Proverbs 24:16, NIV)
- When the wall says, “You missed your moment,” God says, “I will fulfill My purpose for you.” (Psalm 138:8, NIV)
The wall is not the end of your story; it is the turning point of it.
So, today, instead of resisting the wall, receive it as an invitation. Let it slow your pace just enough to hear God’s voice with clarity. Ask Him what He is rebuilding beneath the surface, and write down one truth He is teaching you – one you could not have learned in any other season of your life.
You may not be able to see the full picture, but faith is not based on what we see, it is trust in the One who sees everything.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the "walls" that refine and prepare me. When familiar rhythms stop working, remind me that You are strengthening my foundation for what comes next. Teach me to surrender without fear and to trust what You are forming beneath the surface. Let this breaking point become my turning point – where my dependence on You grows, and my faith becomes mature and deeply rooted in You and in Your Word. Amen.
