The Blessing of Joy
Joy can be hard to hold onto when life is full of responsibilities. With a big family, work, and all the to-dos of Christmas, it’s easy to confuse busyness for joy. I’ve caught myself smiling on the outside but running on empty inside.
But when the angels said, “Good news of great joy,” they pointed us to something deeper, joy that isn’t based on circumstances but on Christ Himself. I rediscover that joy each year when I see our home lit up, the smell of my wife’s fresh bread in the oven, and our kids laughing under twinkling lights. Those are glimpses of God’s goodness, a reflection of the greater joy He brings through salvation.
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” A.W. Tozer
Jesus’ joy isn’t seasonal; it’s sustaining. It reminds me that even in exhaustion, there’s reason to rejoice, because God is good and near.
Respond to God’s Word:
- Thank God for the small joys in your life today.
- Ask Him to renew your joy through His presence.
