The Orange

Discover the Christingle this Christmas! Meaning ‘Christ like’ it is used as a symbol to celebrate Jesus’ birth. 

The idea of the Christingle began with German Bishop Johannes de Watteville in 1747, who wanted a simple way to convey the joy of Christmas at a children’s service. He gave each child a lighted candle wrapped in a red ribbon.

As the children held their candles, Bishop Johannes muttered the following prayer, “Lord Jesus, kindle a flame in these children's hearts that theirs like thine become.”
