What's in a Name?

In 1591, these famous words were scrolled onto the pages of Act 2, Scene 2 in William Shakespeare’s masterpiece ‘Romeo and Juliet’. And since that time, the phrase has resounded from the lips of men and women for centuries.

Just last year, my wife Bobbie and I welcomed our very first grandson into the world. When they announced his name ‘Zion Alexander Charles Houston’, a sense of pride welled up in my heart that they would give me the honour of sharing a middle name with this small (well, not that small) bundle.

So, what is in a name? Well, what I do know is that names are significant. They carry with them heritage and lineage, they carry influence and stature, and we can all agree that no other name in history has carried eternal significance like the name of Jesus.

It is our deepest prayer that each and every service, song, event and gathering in churches the world over is marked by no other name than the name of JESUS. He is the name above all names. It is His name that brings healing, wholeness, restoration, peace, purpose, significance and meaning to everything we do. He is the head of the Church, the cornerstone of our lives and the only name at which we bow our knee.

Let us be reminded daily that nothing is impossible for Him. There is NO OTHER NAME - JESUS.
