This reading plan explores the fourth gospel. John wrote the fourth gospel to assure persecuted Jewish believers that Jesus was the fulfillment of God's ancient promises to the Jews; that Jesus really is the Christ, the Son of God. John wanted to make sure that they would remain faithful to Jesus and enjoy abundant life in him.

“All generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me,” Mary sang. And she was right. She became the mother of Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God! Near the end of his life, John was the last of the living apostles and wrote a story about Jesus. It’s his testimony of who Jesus is, what he said, what he did, and who he claimed to be. Jesus has a story. He invites us to make it our story. When we make Jesus’s story our story, we have life in his name. This plan focuses on Jesus’s final moments with his disciples, crucifixion, and resurrection. It is Jesus’s last will & testament.

Step into the Gospel of John and read through the influence and impact Jesus had the two weeks preceding His death. Once you experience God’s truth, you will never look at life the same – for Jesus is greater than any fear that grips your life or joy that fills your heart.

We believe once we become Christians, our lives will suddenly be easy. God did not promise us a life free from pain or for any women we read about in the Bible, like Mary, Hannah, and Esther. Each had to walk through pain and live her life by faith rather than by sight. Each had to choose to trust God when she didn’t understand.

Over the next two weeks, we'll follow the Easter story as we remember there is always a glimmer of hope, even in the deepest darkness. We'll talk about how Jesus is with us in the darkness and explore what it means that Jesus is the light in the darkness.
