James wrote: "... if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.” (James 1:23-24 NLT) The Pharisees thought they were obeying the word. I wonder, could this be us? Are we Pharisees? You’re invited to gaze afresh, ditch religion, and grow in the childlike intimacy God desires and adores.

The world is telling you to, “Do something EPIC with your life,” “Just go live it!” Becoming a truly epic person is not about elevating yourself to a higher standing. Matthew’s Gospel opens the New Testament by brilliantly introducing the culmination of the entire Old Testament story. After thousands of years and dozens of generations, Jesus had come “to save his people from their sins” (Mathew 1:21).
