The Crucifixion of Jesus - Disciple Maker Series #26

DAY 2 OF 6

The Consequence of Sin

Thoughts on the message

In many ways this is a story about the lies that Satan uses against people.

Lie Number One - He deceives Judas.

We think we can manipulate people into doing what we want them to do without serious consequences. [Judas did not want Jesus to die, probably just force Jesus to respond with force against His enemies].

Lie Number Two - Consequences of stealing or a “love of money” are not serious. Stealing destroys. It destroyed Judas.

Lie Number Three - Satan will stop accusing us once we have acknowledged our failures.

No, freedom comes only from repentance and forgiveness.

Lie Number Four - We can shift the blame to others.

The rulers said it was Judas’s problem – not theirs. No, both of them were to blame for shedding innocent blood.

Lie Number Five - Killing ourselves is an option to solve our problems.

No, suicide does not solve the problem. It means that our options are finished. Now we have to stand before God and will be judged. There is no longer an opportunity for us to repent and get things right with God.

Prayer

Father, we see how Judas took himself down a wrong path and it opened up a door of destruction in his life. You said in Your Word that this would happen – and it does. You are so patient and full of mercy, but You are true to Your Word. I love it when You are true to Your Word to have mercy on us, to forgive us when we repent and to give us the strength we need to overcome our failures. I am also glad that You are faithful to Your Word to be just and to hold us accountable for our failures. Without that, where would our hope be? You will faithfully reward everyone – and that is all I can hope for. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

The Crucifixion of Jesus - Disciple Maker Series #26

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is 26 of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. In this portion, Jesus is condemned by Pilate and crucified. It is brutal, shameful and it exposes the hearts of mankind. It exposes us too.
