Workers in the field

In today’s passage, we once again see Christ’s heartfelt love and compassion for the people leading to a genuine concern for their eternal state. We also see Him instructing the disciples, and by extension you and me, to pray for workers to be sent out. Jesus is holding before His disciples the reality that there are many, many people to be reached with His message but there are few who are willing to go. It is also important for us to realise that we cannot in truth pray this prayer (for workers to be sent out) without being willing to be the answer to our own prayer. How is your commitment to the harvest? Are you willing to be a worker?

Prayer response:

1. Ask God to reveal himself to you as the Lord of the harvest, to show you His passion for the lost.
2. Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers recognising that you are in fact an answer to that prayer! Allow God to give you a heart for the harvest, to equip you to effectively reach the people he has placed around you.
3. Find out about the outreach and short-term mission programmes your church has. Contact your pastor/reverend or outreach director to find out how you can be involved and contribute to the programme.
