James. A 21-day reading plan by Doxa Deo.Sample

James 4:6-10 (ESV) But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Humility is often an elusive quality. At its core, pride is an inaccurate and inflated view of myself (Prov. 21:4). Humility, on the other hand, is an accurate view of myself (Romans 12:3; Matthew 11:29).
The easiest way to tell whether I am leaning towards humility, is in 1) my willingness to listen, 2) my attitude toward serving, and 3) my response to being overlooked or mistreated.
Submitting ourselves to God is a choice, but a very natural response in humility.
Reflection:
Are you leaning toward humility or toward pride?
Are you willing to submit yourself to God?
