The world was turned on its ear. The man who was thought to be the Messiah, the Savior of Israel, was dead. Or was He? News had begun to travel that the tomb where Jesus was buried was empty. Some of the disciples had seen the empty tomb firsthand. Many explanations were considered. But despite their explanations, Jesus stood alive before them defying every conceivable natural law.
Fear and anxiety consumed the disciples as they gathered together trying to make some sense of this incredible event. They locked the door in fear of the Jewish authorities—in fear that what happened to Jesus might happen to them and in doubt that such a miracle was possible—even for Jesus. But in the middle of perhaps their most vulnerable moment, Jesus commissions them with the mission.
Just as the Father sent Jesus, so He now sends the Church. As believers in Christ, we are a part of a group sent on a Great Commission to make disciples who then go and make more disciples. This is not a suggestion or one of many options for believers in Christ, but a command. It is our mission and purpose. This is what it means to be a follower of Jesus—to walk as He did (1 John 2:6).

About this Plan
Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
