Journey Witnesses

DAY 99 OF 221

The first-century Corinthian church was littered with problems. They displayed a lack of humility, a misunderstanding of the resurrection, and some significant sexual sins—all of which prevented them from being a unified, growing body of Christ. And although they sought answers from Paul, they even questioned Paul’s authority to answer those very questions.

Paul patiently yet firmly addresses each concern they raise as well as several of his own concerns. But at every turn his point remains the same—love Christ, love each other, and be unified. Theses young Corinthian believers needed to see that the gospel message and the unity of the church had nothing to do with them, or Paul, or anyone else. But is has everything to do with Christ.

It would have been easy for Paul to consider himself somehow superior to others because of his knowledge, his status, and even his encounter with Jesus. Instead, he essentially puts himself in the shoes of the Corinthians. He wants to understand them, reach them, and be certain they know Christ fully. Follow the example of Paul as he follows the example of Christ. The challenge is to be empathetic towards others. Be humble. Get beyond your comfort zone and seek out ways that you can be all things to all people so that through you, God may save some.

About this Plan

Journey Witnesses

Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
