DAY 4 OF 5

Comparison

Comparison: we all do it. We compare ourselves and others by how we dress, what we have, what we do, what we can’t do.  You hear others doing it, you talk to your friends about it, you can even just make a comment in your mind. We all compare things, but what good is it doing?

When I was a kid, the only type of internet we had was dial-up. You had to sit in front of a computer at the desk. It took 2-3 mins to load up one page to view, the images were terrible, and it just wasn’t worth your time. Today we have Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, and more that can be loaded within seconds with tons of images and articles on any device. I take you back to the 90’s to tell you this: all of these social medias really add up to our comparison problem.

We are surrounded by “voices” telling us we are not enough. Most of the time when we are scrolling through social media we are seeing our friend’s best days, on our worst. We see them winning trophies, looking great in their outfits, and having the “perfect life”. We hear, “you’re not enough”, “you can’t do that”, “look like that or have that life”. This brings me back to day 2 of this series, this is Satan telling you a lie.

When you compare everything in your life you become discontent and the cure is to be thankful. How do you do this? By imitating the one who gave you a reason to be thankful, Christ. Instead of trying to make yourself like others, try to make yourself more like the flawless Savior.

This may sound like an overwhelming task because we are humans, we sin. But this is what we are called to do, imitate God because we are his children. But how do we imitate God? Look at the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23: “The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Go back through that list and ask yourself on each one of the Fruits of the Spirit: “Do I have _____” (love, joy, peace, etc.)
