Encountering Suffering

DAY 4 OF 5

Everyone Has Worth

It can be easy to feel undervalued or worthless when you are in the midst of suffering. You feel the pain of not measuring up to others. This pain can create a cycle of negative thoughts, hopelessness, and loneliness. When you experience suffering, you may think your self-worth comes from your circumstances. You may feel alone. Musician John Cooper of Skillet tells us why you have worth and hope even in the suffering.
Listen to John
Like John said, you are inherently worth something because God made you. You are beautiful to God and He wants to redeem you. Your worth is not tied to your circumstances, but to the One who made you. Psalm 139 reminds us that God is aware of everything happening to you. He will lead and hold onto you, for you have been fearfully and wonderfully made (v. 10, v. 14).

Apply

  • Theodore Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of joy." In what ways does comparison have a hold on your life? What does God say about you?
  • If you or someone you know are experiencing suffering, take a moment to read through Psalm 139 and pray over your circumstance.

About this Plan

Encountering Suffering

Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world!” This means that everyone will encounter suffering in one form or another. Jesus reminds us to “take heart” because He will be with us every step of the way. The guests in this five-day plan (with audio) share helpful insights on this topic.
