God's Love

DAY 6 OF 9

Love Believes All Things, Trusts All Things

Paul prefaced the great love chapter with these words: "And I will show you a more excellent way" (1 Corinthians 12:31). The Corinthians certainly needed a more excellent way. They were puffed with pride. They judged one another. They participated in the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner. The rich ostracized the poor. They abused spiritual gifts. They tolerated and even condoned gross sexual immorality. And as a body, they were divided. Quite simply, the Corinthian church was a mess.

What does love say to a group like that? It says loudly and clearly that it believes always. Paul's letter to the Corinthians is proof. God would have never compelled Paul to show them a more excellent way if love did not believe always, if love did not have the power to grow this group of "spiritual infants".

The word believe means trust or credit, to be fully persuaded about something. We use the words trust and belief all the time. We trust in one car maker over another, one electric company over another, even one political party over another. We trust a thing until it fails, then we move on to something else. But that's not the true way of love.

Regardless of how bleak a situation looks, or how down we may get, God's love says time and time again that it believes always. Is there any power on earth greater than the love of God? Sin and death were no match. You can count on God's love believing always for you - that his love can bring change to your heart and soul.

Remember the thief on the cross? He saw God demonstrate his love toward him in this, "that while he was a sinner, Christ died for him." This love touched his heart and turned his face toward Jesus. At the point of his greatest pain and failure, he heard the words of Jesus, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).

You can trust that God's love is powerful enough to penetrate through anything you are experiencing. You can also trust His love in your relationships with others. You can't see inside another person's heart, but you can know God's love can be trusted in their life.

God's love believes the best for you, always. It is the answer to all of your heartaches. Abide in this love and watch it establish and grow your relationships with one another.
