Jesus, The Miracle WorkerSample

The young man from Nain
Soon after this, Jesus went to the town of Nain. The disciples and a large crowd went along with Him. As they neared the gate of the town, a dead man was being carried out. He was the only son of a widow. When Jesus saw her, His heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry,” He said.
Then Jesus walked up to the coffin and touched it. Those who were carrying it stood still. Then He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk. And Jesus gave him back to his mother. Everyone was amazed and praised God, saying, “God has come to help His people.” The news about Jesus spread to the surrounding countryside.
This young man was the first person that Jesus raised from the dead. Jesus didn’t do this to become popular among the people or to show off His power. He felt a deep sadness and love for the widow. Jesus cares for us in the same way. When we are sad, He feels it; when we are hurt, He knows and understands.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Jesus died so we can be raised to eternal life one day.
FACT: The first person mentioned in the Bible that was raised from the dead was also the son of a widow (1 Kings 17:17-24).
