Six Days With Spurgeon

DAY 4 OF 6

Philippians 2:13 " ... for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure."
John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth."

The second way we become sanctified is through the Word of God itself. Jesus made it clear in this passage that the Word is truth and has the power to make us pure. The passages of Scripture apply to every area of our lives if we will but read them, meditate on them and seek God’s wisdom and revelation from their very words. The Holy Spirit seeks to bring to our minds the precepts, principles and power of God’s truth as we remain in the Word. These then show up in our lives as spiritual power, discernment and a pervading calm in the midst of a chaotic culture.

While the Word of God is heard by the ear, it is received by the heart. As we receive it, it goes to work in us both to will (motivate us) and to do God’s good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).

The truth of the Word itself sanctifies you. But if you do not hear or read this truth, you will not gain the benefits of it. You will not grow as a result of its’ Divine work in your soul. You only progress spiritually when you abide in, meditate on and apply God’s Word to your life.

Scripture tells us plainly, “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path,” (Psalm 119:105). Do not take this spiritual reality lightly, my friend. Do not say that is just what some preacher says. No, it is from God Himself. The Word of God is what grows, develops, nurtures, transforms and sanctifies you. Hold fast to this truth. It is in holding fast to this truth that you will become the victorious believer God destined you to be.
