The Overcoming Life With Jimmy EvansSample
Every born-again person possesses the inherent capacity to overcome the world: For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (I John 5:4-5). The world is anything that is the enemy of good because the enemy of good seeks to squelch the work of the Church and the destinies of all believers. You and I have not been left in this world to be overcome but to become victorious!
Rejection may be the most difficult thing for people to overcome. Thankfully, we have a Savior who understands exactly how this feels. From birth to death, Jesus was the most rejected human being in the history of the world. Jesus experienced rejection from His family, from Roman authority, and even from His own.
Why did God reject His own Son? Because Jesus took our place on the cross. Our sins make us deserve God’s rejection, but on the cross, Jesus took upon Himself every sin we ever committed or ever will commit. Therefore, God the Father turned His back to Jesus on the cross. Two thousand years ago, God rejected His Son once and for all so that He will never reject us again in eternity. When we put our faith in Jesus, we are accepted forever.
Jesus overcame rejection on every level, and He empowered us to do the same.
• Rejection never affected His decisions.
Jesus did many things even though He knew they would get Him rejected or killed. The fear of rejection never stopped Jesus.
• Rejection never affected His attitude or the way He treated people.
Jesus was stripped naked in front of His mother, and He died the most cruel, shameful death of any human being who has ever died. Yet even as He hung on the cross, Jesus forgave the people who put Him there.
• Rejection never kept Him from accomplishing His destiny.
Jesus did everything that God the Father called Him to do, knowing that He would suffer rejection as a result.
What area of your life causes you to feel the greatest rejection? Verbalize to the Lord what rejections you are willing to place in His hands, and ask Him to give you His love and acceptance in return.
