Embracing Who You Are In Christ By Danny Forshee

DAY 5 OF 5

“Identity in Christ, part 5”

In this week's final devotion, I will share again about our identity in Christ. I hope these messages have been helpful and impactful to you. So many Christians are living defeated lives, and to me, that is a great contradiction: to know Jesus and live defeated. We should be soaring like eagles instead of moping around like turkeys. When we forget who we are in the Lord, we slip into a terrible pattern of negative thinking. We must replace this type of defeatism with the truth of God's Word. The Bible has much to say to us about our identity in Christ.

Today's Scripture verse states that we are not just conquerors but more than conquerors through Jesus who loves us. The Greek word translated "conqueror" is hypernikao, and it takes five English words to translate this one Greek word: "we are more than conquerors." Notice the word nikao, from which we get the brand name "Nike". Philip Knight chose a fantastic word to name his sports merchandise empire. When you see the word "Nike" with the trademark swoosh symbol, you probably think of a very successful business. No matter what is happening in our lives, we are still more than conquerors because of Jesus living in us.

Years ago, I read Robert McGee's excellent book, The Search for Significance. There is a wonderful quote in the book that I want to share with you and encourage you to commit to memory. It reads, "I have great worth apart from my performance because Christ gave His life for me and therefore, imparted great value to me. I am deeply loved, fully pleasing, totally forgiven, accepted, and complete in Christ."

If you have turned to Jesus for salvation, repented, and believed on Him to save you, then not only is heaven your eternal home, but you also are empowered to live a victorious life here on earth. Jesus promised to give His people abundant life (John 10:10). Remember, you are not just a nikao, but also a hypernikao!

Discussion questions:

1. After reading these devotionals, what is one thing you’ve learned about your identity in Christ?

2. What does it mean to be more than a conqueror, and how does that truth affect your attitude toward life?

3. How will your life look different when you live out of the identity God has given you?

We hope this Plan encouraged you. Explore Other Resources from DFEA.
