Daily Bible Reading — Sustained by God’s Word of PromiseSample
July 6
Introduction
As a boy, Samuel served the LORD in Shiloh by helping Eli the priest. One night he heard the voice of the LORD calling him, and Samuel received a message from the LORD. When Samuel grew up, he became a prophet of the LORD.
Today’s Scripture: 1 Samuel 3:10b (GNT)
Samuel answered, “Speak; your servant is listening.”
Today’s Reading
1 Samuel 3:1-21
Reflect
After Samuel heard the LORD call out to him the third time, Eli realized that the voice Samuel heard was that of the LORD. What did Eli tell Samuel to say? What was the LORD’s message to Samuel? (Recall 1 Samuel 2:12-17, 22-36 from the July 4 reading that describes the sins committed by Eli’s sons). The chapter concludes by stating that the “LORD continued to reveal Himself at Shiloh.” In what ways is God revealed to you?
Pray
Lord God, open my heart to hear your voice and to discern your will. Teach me to listen and to be guided in the way of your truth. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those in the process of discerning God’s voice.
Tomorrow’s Reading
1 Samuel 6:1-19: The Philistines return the Covenant Box that they had captured from Israel.
