Why am I afraid to share my faith?

Do you feel afraid to share your faith with your coworkers, family members or even strangers? If so, then you’re in perfectly good company. Most people are afraid of sharing their faith for one of the reasons below. See how many of them apply to you:

I’m afraid of being rejected.

I’m afraid of what people will think of me.

I don’t know enough to be able to share with others.

I won’t know how to answer questions that come up.

Maybe the person I’m sharing with will react negatively.

In Judges 6, we are introduced to the story of Gideon, a man who was also afraid, and for good reason. He lived in a time when the children of Israel were ruthlessly oppressed by the Midianites and the Amalekites. Gideon was just a normal guy trying to make a living as a farmer while staying clear of his oppressors.

But then one day the Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and told him to face and fight against his enemy. God told Gideon that he was destined to save Israel from the Midianites, but Gideon was afraid, and he gave God a list of reasons why he wasn’t the man for the job. He couldn’t single-handedly save Israel! His clan was the smallest and weakest in all of Israel, and he was in fact the weakest in his entire family! Surely God had made a mistake. God wasn’t interested in Gideon’s strength but in his weakness, and He replied to Gideon, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.”

No matter what objections you have as to why you can’t share your faith, God today is saying to you, “Surely I will be with you.” Whatever seemingly insurmountable mountains stand in front of you, God is going help you overcome them. You’re never alone when sharing your faith; God is always with you. In your weakness, He is strong.

Take a moment to ask God to reveal your fears of being a witness for Jesus. Maybe right now is the time to be a little more bold. Why not pray that the Lord will put someone on your heart who would be blessed by this video and then share it with them today?
