Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of Forgiveness & MercySample

August 29
Introduction
King David had been known as a victorious leader who had been blessed by God. Today’s reading focuses on an incident that examines him personally. While David’s soldiers are off fighting the Ammonites, he sins by sleeping with Bathsheba, the beautiful wife of Uriah, and then arranges for Uriah to die in battle.
Today’s Scripture: 2 Samuel 11:27b
The LORD was not pleased with what David had done.
Today’s Reading
2 Samuel 11:1-27
Reflect
What did David do that was wrong? What did he do to cover up his sin? Reread verses 6-13. What reason does Uriah give for not going home? What are your thoughts about Uriah’s character?
Pray
Lord God, when I am faced with temptation, help and strengthen me so that I do not yield to do what is not pleasing in your sight. Remind me of your steadfast love and forgive me when I sin. Guard my lips and actions this day. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those facing temptation
Tomorrow’s Reading
2 Samuel 12:1-25: The prophet Nathan confronts David.
