Small Group = Family.
That might be more of a hope than a reality for some of us. And to be honest, many of our families are so dysfunctional that we don’t want our small group to be like our family. We want something different.
At the core of it all, every single one of us wants to be accepted, loved and feel like we belong. This is really hard to find on Sunday mornings, when people are coming and going, serving, have crying babies on their side and only make 1-2 church services a month.
Your small group can be different. It can be a place where you truly and completely love one another. Are you willing to lay down your life for the people in your group? Are you willing to give up your own time to be with your group every time they meet? Are you willing to put the interests of the people in your group above your own?
John, a disciple of Jesus, asks us all to live that way. He even asks us to consider thinking about “our stuff” differently. If someone in your group is in need, would you be willing to sacrifice your next big purchase for the sake of one of your group members? Yes, this is a radical way of living, but I think most of us are desiring to be a part of this type of community.
Questions:
When is the last time you selflessly gave and had to sacrifice your desires?
Has there ever been a time in your life where you needed some help, but felt alone?
