5 Days Of Navigating Hard Times: A Prairie Devotional

DAY 5 OF 5

Through Storms And Falls

“Blizzards don’t stop Charles and Jonathan.” — Caroline Ingalls

When storms break out, our heavenly Father is ready to protect us. His love never gives up. Caroline feels the same way about Charles and Jonathan’s traveling through a blizzard with medicine for the sick townspeople of Walnut Grove. She knows the men will do anything to help their children and neighbors.

Fathers protect their children; it’s what they do. On the set of Little House with my “Pa,” I saw this in action. I was three years old, climbing up into a director’s chair during a day of filming. The tall black chair was far too big, and I fell out the back and onto the floor. Michael Landon didn’t make a big deal about it, but immediately new little chairs were ordered for us. We were delighted when the chairs arrived with our names printed on the backs. Michael wanted to protect us, but he went beyond simple protection and wowed us with his fatherly love.

God— our good, good Father— wows us all the time. He walks with us through the strongest storms and even the minor falls. Charles and Jonathan pushed through the blizzard and brought medicine and hope to the town. God pushes through all our storms to bring us hope and protection.

Have you ever been protected by a father? What storm has God helped you through? How has God wowed you with His love?
